Women’s Room – Center for Sexual Rights on the occasion of the National Day of Elimination of Violence against Women is organizing a public action on the 27th of September, 2014. The action will in front of hotel Dubrovnik (Street of Mirko Bogović) in Zagreb from 11 am to 1 pm.

The goal of the action is to mark the National Day of Elimination of Violence against Women and influence numerous prejudices about this topic. Goal is also to sensitize the public and provide them information on the possibilities of protection, assistance and support for people experiencing this kind of violence.

At the action informative materials will be distributed (leaflets, brochures, manuals) and citizens will also have the opportunity to hear the jingle on the topic of violence against women. The arrival of celebrities is expected, such as Sonja Šarunić, the handball players from RK Lokomotiva Zagreb, Jana Bilušić, Marina Tomašević. Julija Matanović, Lana Pavić, Anja Šovagić, Mila Elegović, Višnja Babić, Žarko Savić and Boris Vrtan.

The public action is a crucial part of the project “Through Education to Knowledge – Through Cooperation for change!” which is implemented by Women’s Room – Center for Sexual Rights and financially supported by the National Foundation for Civil Society Development. The project is carried out in cooperation with four partner organizations: Center for Women Adela (Sisak), Association Brod – Women’s Human Rights Group (Slavonski Brod), Women’s Association “HERA” (Križevci) and SOS phone – City of Rijeka.

Safe House from Pula in cooperation with the Commission for Gender Equality of Istria County and Women’s Association Pula is organizing on Monday, September 22nd, 2014 from 10 am a march on the occasion of the National Day of Elimination of Violence against Women.

The procession starts from the Pula Forum at 10am, making their way to Portarata and then the Falnatic street to the market, where they will release black balloons in memory of the victims of domestic violence in Croatia.

They want to draw attention with this action and sensitize the public about the issue of violence in the Republic of Croatia and to commemorate the murder of judge Ljiljana Hvalec, lawyer Hajre Prohić and her client Gordana Oraškić, whose husband Mato Oraškić killed all three women and seriously injured the Usher in the Municipal Court of Zagreb 15 years ago in a divorce case.

Commission for Gender Equality Krapina – Zagorje County in cooperation with SOS phone for women victims of violence Krapina – Zagorje County is organizing a round table on the occasion of the National day of Elimination of Violence against women. Round table will be held on Monday, September 22nd, 2014 in Krapina, in the Small hall of the Open University from 10 to 12 am.

The purpose of the round table is to present the implementation of the “Rules of Procedure in cases of domestic violence” by organizations and institutions dealing with issues of domestic violence in the Krapina – Zagorje County, as well as to present the work of the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth on the development of the Network of homes and social work activities for providing services outside of the family for victims of domestic violence. In addition to presenting the SOS line,
they invited all the Centers of Social Welfare in the Krapina – Zagorje County, Zabok General Hospital, Elementary school from Tuhelj, Police Department Krapina – Zagorje and Municipal Court of Zlatar to present their work in 2014.

Tajana Broz, President of the Commission for Gender Equality of the Krapina – Zagorje County will moderate the round table at which the presentations will be held by: Representative of the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth; Martina Keča, SOS phone for women victims of violence; Jadranka Vuković, Center for Social Welfare Krapina; Mira Jadan, Center for Social welfare Zabok; Verica Sugnetic, Center for Social Welfare Zlatar Bistrica; Stanislava Erdelja, Center for Social Welfare – Donja Stubica; Andreja Jurić, Police Department Krapina – Zagorje; Vesna Pavetić, Municipal Court of Zlatar; Božena Štokan, Zabok General Hospital; Snježana Romić, Elementary School from Tuhelj.

Association Zora from Čakovec, Safe House Čakovec and Social Welfare Center Čakovec with its subsidiary Family Center is organizing a public action in three cities in Međimurje County marking the National Day of Elimination of Violence against Women and in the framework of the project “It is never to late”.

Representatives and volunteers of the partner organizations will hand out educational materials and inform people about places and ways they can get help or advice in Međimurje County.

The public actions will be held on: September 20th from 9am to 11.30 am in Čakovec at the Republic Square, September 23rd from 9 am to 11.30 am in Prelog at the New Square and on September 25th 2014 from 9 am to 11.30 am in Mursko Središće at the town market.

Association Zora will also join the action of informing people on domestic violence at the Safety and Prevention Fair marking the Police Day this Friday, September 19th in Nedelišće (MESAP) from 9 am to 7 pm.

Starting next week (22nd of September) all across Međimurje County there will be posters put up of the project “It is never too late” with numbers and places where citizens can turn for help.

The aim of the public activities is to inform the population of Međimurje County on the services and places (associations/ institutions) related to preventing domestic violence and protecting the victims and educating the public about the types of domestic violence and sensitize them and de-stigmatizing the victims.

Association SOS phone – City of Rijeka invites all interested parties to a public lecture on “Diffusion of social responsibility in the case of domestic violence” on the 23rd of September 2014. The public lecture will be held at the Information center for crime Prevention, Dolac 7b in Rijeka, starting at 3 pm.

The employees of Primorje – Gorski Kotar police station, will attend the lecture and they will present their work, followed by a psychologist and vice president of the association SOS phone – City of Rijeka, Lorena Zec. As an intro to her lecture she will present the work of the Association, projects and activities carried out by the Association.

Through this lecture the concept of diffusion of social responsibility will be explained to the citizens and also when it occurs and the dangers of it. Diffusion of social responsibility is a psychological phenomenon in which we all once took place or personally experienced it. For example in situations where we have witnessed an event in which we are expected to react in a certain way, mostly by helping a person, but often we expect that somebody else will take those necessary steps.

The lecture is a continuation of the activities marking the National Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women organized by the Association SOS phone – City of Rijeka.

Organized by the SOS phone – City of Rijeka, a public action will be held on the 22nd of September 2014 from 10 am to 1 pm at Korzo. The aim of the action is to raise awareness for the issue of violence against women on the occasion of the National Day of Elimination of Violence against Women.

Members of the association SOS phone – City of Rijeka will distribute promotional and project materials. At 11 am the arrival of football players from NK Rijeka is expected, which will thus support the cause of the public action.

Association Brod – women’s human rights group from Slavonski Brod is organizing a public action on the 22nd of September 2014 for the National Day of Elimination of Violence against Women. The public action will take place at the city Corso (in front of the store Vesna) in Slavonski Brod from 11 am to 2 pm.

At the public action promotional materials will be distributed and citizens will be familiarized with the issue of domestic violence and the work of the Association Brod – women’s human rights group.

The public action is a crucial part of the project “Education to knowledge – cooperation to change!” and this way the citizens will also learn about the project. Center for Women Adela (Sisak) is organizing a public lecture called “The Role of Social Services in the Field of Combating Domestic Violence.” The public lecture will be held on September 22nd 2014 at 11am at the Hotel Panonija in Sisak, marking the National Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The main goal of the public lectures is to exchange experiences in combating violence against women and the creation of an informal network of organizations of civil society that will work on advocating for positive change in the protection of the rights of women victims of violence.

A speech as a guest lecturer will be held by Štefica Karačić, President of the Croatian Association of Social Workers.

The public lecture will be held as a part of the project “Through Education Knowledge – Through Cooperation for Change”, which is financially supported by the National Foundation for Civil Society Development. The project is implemented in collaboration with the Women’s Room – Center for Sexual rights as the holder of the project, Association of Women – HERA, Križevci, Center for Women – Adela, Sisak, Association Brod – Group for Women’s Human Rights, and SOS Phone – City of Rijeka, Association for Providing Help to Victims of Violence.

Women’s Association HERA, from Križevci, in September carried out a number of activities and events related to the issue of violence against women. Thematic meeting called “The cooperation of organisation of civil society and institutions in the field of prevention and repression of gender-based violence” was held on 16th of September 2014 in the premises of Center for Social Welfare Križevci.

The aim of the meeting was to improve and develop cross-sectoral cooperation of organisations of civil society and government institutions in the field of preventing violence. The thematic meeting was attended by the representatives of the Center of Social Welfare Križevci, representatives of Department of Juvenile Delinquency from the police station Križevci and representatives of the Women’s Association HERA”.

Women’s Association HERA is organizing a public action on Monday, 22nd of September, 2014 on the occasion of the National Day of Elimination of Violence against Violence Women, to commemorate the 22nd of September, 1999 when three women were killed in the Municipal Court in Zagreb – a wife in a divorce case, her lawyer and the judge. Action will take place on Strossmayer Square in Križevci from 10.00 am to 12.00 am. In collaboration with the Police Administration of Koprivnica – Križevci County, Police Station of Križevci and Center of Social Welfare Križevci, with the aim of sensitising the public about the issue of domestic violence and violence against women.

During the public action citizens will be able to get information on the notification of domestic violence, where and to whom victims can turn to, where to get advice and suppor. Leaflets and educational materials of all participants in the action will be distributed

Furthermore, on the 23rd of September 2014 Women’s Association HERA is organizing a public lecture, with the aim of sensitising the public about the issue of violence against women. The public lecture will be held in the Great Hall of the City at 13.00 p.m. Lecturers at the public lecture will be Ines Bojić, lawyer and member of the legal team in the association B.a.B.e. and Maja Vrbek from the office of the chief of the Police station in Koprivnica – Križevci County.

These activities an events are organized within the project “Through Education KnowledgeThrough Cooperation for Change”, which is financially supported by the National Foundation for Civil Society Development and is implemented by Women’s Room – Center for Sexual Rights, Center for Women Adela, Sisak, Association Brod – group for women’s Human Rights, Women’s Association HERA Križevci and the Association SOS phone – City of Rijeka.

The project “Work is the key” will create prerequisites for economical independence and the deinstitutionalization of 60 women victims of violence in Lika – Senj, Primorje – Gorski Kotar and Sisak – Moslavina County through fifteen month. The seven partner organizations participating in the project will offer a new model of employment for long term unemployed women.

The deinstitutionalization program will be implemented in three levels: 1) psychological counseling; 2) education, modifying the qualifications and certification; 3) employment.

Psychological counseling will be conducted individually and in groups. Women victims of violence will gain ICT knowledge and skills that will help them in future employment (acquisition of ECDL diploma – European Computer Driving Licence), but also in managing the house budget. Education will consist of the basics of entrepreneurship and recycling workshops, and according to the wishes of the beneficiary. The employment program will consist of development of individual employment plans, teaching self-employment, life skills workshops, preparation for work and teaching in the workplace. A business club that aims on networking and mutual support for women will be opened, and also will connect women victims of violence with successful members of the community. It will be located in the Center of technical culture Rijeka. A day-care will be provided for the children of users. In order to enhance the employability of women involved in the project and getting acquainted with the new model of employment, two study visits will be organized to social cooperatives in Croatia.

The project is co-founded by the European Social Found through the Operational Programme Human Resources Development 2007 – 2013, pre-accession instrument. The project leader is the Regional Development Agency Porin which will implement the project with six partners (Technical Culture Center Rijeka, Association for the protection of family, SOS phone – City of Rijeka, Center for Women Adela, City of Rijeka – City Department of entrepreneurship and the City Department of Health and Social Welfare, the Croatian Employment Service, regional office Rijeka) and one collaborator (Primorje – Gorski Kotar County).
