On 29 and 30 March 2014, Organization for Workers’ Initiative and Democratization (OWID) held the first session as part of the Trade Union Women’s School. Trade union activists from three union headquarters (UATUC, NHS, HURS), together with all the other interested persons participated in the Trade Union Women’s School. The session consisted of workshops, seminars, discussions and panels on topics such as introduction to feminism and workers’ movement, social reproduction and the particularities of women’s unionization.
Members of the Domine organization Valerija Barada and Mirjana Kučer held an interactive lecture/workshop titled “Patriarchal Models: Woman, Mother, Queen”. Valerija Barada, who works at the Department of Sociology in Zadar, and Mirjana Kučer, the coordinator of the Domine organization, talked about important issues of Croatian women who are facing the threats of repatriarchalization and retraditionalization, that is to say – the threats of losing women’s rights. The depth of the economic crisis, as well as an aggressive campaign conducted by the Church which promotes traditional gender roles, favour this negative trend.
Trade Union Women’s School is being held as part of the project “Expansion of areas of cooperation between civil society organizations in Croatia”, and is organized by OWID. The is founded by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Foundation.
