The organization Hollaback! Croatia invites all interested citizens to the first Zagreb Chalk Walk that is going to be held on June 5th 2014 in the parking lot in front of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, Ivana Lučića 3 at 5 p.m.
One of the basic ideas that Hollaback! is promoting is that everyone needs to respond to any form of street harassment (physical, verbal, nonverbal, …) and thus contribute to stopping gender-based violence on the streets of which the most vulnerable groups are the women and the LGBT people. Examples of this kind of street harassment are insulting, name calling, commenting on looks, touching, masturbation in public, following, threats of assault or any similar behavior that makes the person experiencing it feel negative emotions such as embarrassment, shame, anger or fear.
Chalk Walk is a form of public protest against the culture of harassment, but also a method of restoring power in the hands of the victims. The idea of such an event was modeled on similar events organized by the Hollaback! movement in other countries, and consists of drawing drawings and printing messages with chalk against gender-based violence, and sending messages to the harassers.
